Healing My Marriage

The Power of Marriage

The power of Christianity is the fresh start. What Jesus has done is the Good News! So, this good news has ramifications for our marriages! Something new has come and old has passed away. When we follow Jesus, we yield to his supreme direction in our lives. This goes for our marriages, too. Jesus asks for what your spouse asks for: put me first. Marriage won't work unless you put your marriage in the highest priority over your parents, kids, career, and hobbies.

In Ephesians, we are introduced to a metaphor. A husband ought to love his wife like he does his own body. Your physical health is foundational to your overall health. When we decide to make more money, for example, we place our desire to make money over caring for our health. We will work long hours, eat poorly and take on more stress. This eventually takes its toll on us and our marriage.

Ephesians says take care of your body. Take care of your marriage. Care for it. Feed it. Exercise it. Challenge it.  There is a connection between the physical and the spiritual. Take care.

C.S. Lewis writes:

'He gives the happiness that there is, not the happiness that is not. To be GOD-to be like GOD and to share his goodness in creaturely response--to be miserable--these are the only alternatives. If we will not learn to eat the only food that the universe grows--the only food that any possible universe can ever grow--then we must starve eternally.

Jesus is the Bread of Life. He feeds and provides. He is the one that makes things new. Do you need a fresh start? Have you heard the Good News?
